Rugby
union in post-war Cambodia originates with the creation of the Royal
Rugby Club du Cambodge in 1996. The CFR (Cambodian Federation of
Rugby) was created in 2000 to unify the rugby efforts in Cambodia
and gain recognition and membership in the ARFU (Asian Rugby
Football Union).
Since then the CFR has
developed rugby through junior development, the involvement and
hosting of regional tournaments and the national domestic league.
All rugby activities in the
Kingdom of Cambodia operate under the CFR including all
administration, planning, scheduling, coordinating and growth of the
game.
Junior rugby and development
has always been important and in 2003 Cambodia received the IRB
International Development Award, this was followed in 2006 with the
CFR becoming an IRB associate member.
Rugby is now more popular than
ever with registered player numbers exceeding 3,000 during the
history of the CFR, including juniors, women, 7’s and international
players.
The CFR aims to continue build
and develop the game of rugby union in Cambodia
